Tally Import & Export

Move data between RetailDek and Tally Prime in both directions — no lock-in. Open it from Imports & Exports → Tally Import & Export; the screen has two tabs.

Preview an export period, where the XML downloads, and the validated import path.

Export to Tally​

  1. Pick the period — from and to dates — and, if you run several stores, which one.

  2. Select Preview. It counts what the file will contain before anything downloads.

  3. Select Download for the XML file.

  4. In Tally Prime: Gateway of Tally → Import Data → Vouchers, pick the file — and enable "create masters" on the first import.

Import from Tally​

Choose your masters XML file. Every record is schema-validated first and shown in a preview as valid, duplicate, or invalid — with the reason. Only valid rows import, in one transaction; the button reads exactly how many ("Import 42 valid records"), or "Nothing new to import".

Export a period as Tally Prime XML — Preview counts the vouchers before anything downloads.

Good to know​

  • Running an import needs create permission on Tally; previewing an export needs only view.
  • Duplicates never overwrite — a re-import of the same masters file skips what already exists.
