Purchase Returns

Goods going back to a supplier: a debit note raised against their invoice — it deducts the returned stock and records how the supplier makes good. Open it from Purchases → Purchase Returns.

The whole cycle: a supplier bill received, one unit returned on a debit note, and both records cleaned away.

What you can do here

  • Raise a debit note — find the original purchase invoice (number, supplier, or phone), enter the return quantity per line — never more than what's still returnable — and pick the settlement: Cash received, UPI received, Adjust against payable (the usual), or Replacement.
  • Track settlement — notes stay Open until marked Settled; print or download the note's PDF from its view.
  • Delete restores stock — a note recorded in error is deleted and the deducted stock comes back.
Each note against its purchase invoice, with the settlement mode on the row.

Good to know

  • Returned quantities deduct from stock at the invoice's own location.
  • Cancelled and return-type invoices can't be returned against.
